Review of December events and services

Christmas Concert

We welcomed the choir Of One Accord for our Concert of Christmas music on Friday 1st December. Although the attendance was not as good as other years those present heartily enjoyed the variety of songs and the versatility and talent of the singers. Thanks to all who provided the copious quantities of mince pies, sausage rolls, punch and draw prizes.

Carol Service

We were welcomed to St James' Church Greete for our combined service of Nine Lessons and Carols on 17th December. A full church enjoyed this traditional service led by Kath Bills and followed by hospitality at the home of Bev and Robin Huntbach. Many thanks.

Festive Lights

Once again many thanks to The Edwards Family of the Burnt House for their hospitality on Sunday 17th December when we were able to enjoy afternoon tea and the magnificent display of Christmas Lights. A wonderful sight both inside and out.

Celebration Party

On the invitation of Jane, Matthew and David Perks we gathered together at Whitton Paddocks for an evening of carols and humorous readings to celebrate the success of the Village Christmas event. A good time was had by all and we thank the Perks family for their wonderful hospitality and generosity in providing an excellent buffet and drinks.

Christmas Eve

Our “Midnight Mass” at 9 pm led by Rev Claire Lording was very well attended by villagers and visitors who all appreciated this Christmas Eucharist with Carols to celebrate the beginning of Christmas. During the service Claire dedicated the Communion Set which has been generously given to the church by Rev Colin and Mrs Liz Hutt. It is difficult to find words to express our gratitude for this wonderful gift. We would like to thank all who helped to make the church look so beautiful with the Christmas flowers, the tree, the Advent wreath and the crib. Thanks to Chris Wall for once again providing the tree.

Electoral Roll

Just a reminder that applications for new entries to the Church Electoral Roll must be in between 14th and 28th February 2007. Application forms are available in the church.

Pancake Race

Our Annual Pancake Race will be held on Shrove Tuesday 20th February 10.30 am at Whitton Farm. Please bring your own frying pan, pancakes will be provided, coffee and sherry will be served afterwards. Come and join in the fun, spectators welcome.

Kath Bills would like to thank everyone who contributed to Samaritans Purse Shoebox Appeal. Once again a record number of boxes were despatched from the Hartlebury Depot. Thanks also to the knitters - this is a year round project and hats, gloves, mittens and scarves are needed at anytime. Old mobile phones are also required for the Water Aid project - a box is in the church.

Toddler Report

Fourteen very excited children met just before Christmas for a party held at Hope Bagot Village Hall. Michael gamely led them on a brisk walk around the Churchyard looking at the abundant fauna and flora, in particular Michael ‘innocently’ pointed out the Mistletoe; well, we lost count of all the kisses exchanged under the tree!! Youngsters these days!! Many thanks to Charles Kenchington who then gave each child a lesson on bell ringing which the children thoroughly enjoyed. The children then sang Away in a Manager whilst sitting in Church before rushing back to the hall for lunch followed by games and then a timely visit from Father Christmas. Many thanks to Mac for his valiant performance - you were brilliant! All children and parents alike had a wonderful time and many thanks to Michael for making it so memorable. — Clare Cavenagh

Tony Britten

We offer our condolences to Sue and family of Roseleigh on the sudden death of Tony on New Year's Eve. Although only having been in Whitton a short while Tony was a devout member of our church and enjoyed being part of the community.

49 Club

Another very successful year for the club. Since we began almost 8 years ago, £9,900 has been given in prizes and £9,319 donated to our church. Once again thank you for your friendly generous support and may your number come up lots of times in 2007. — Joan Harris

As the Wise Men were led to worship the infant Jesus, so lead your Church to know you more clearly and to do your work on earth more faithfully.
