Joseph Wall

I was privileged on Thursday 24th April to attend the 74th Herefordshire Festival for Music, Dance, Speech and Drama held at The Courtyard Studio Theatre in Hereford. Joseph Wall (aged 8 years) participated in Pianoforte Solo - Pre-Grade 1 (for the under-11s) and was commended with 85 marks - an excellent result. 28 children took part and the 3rd placed child attained 86 marks. Well done Joseph - a star in the making!! A most enjoyable morning.

Open Gardens

Sat/Sun 28th and 29th June, 11am-5.30pm

After a break of a year or so we are again preparing to open the many and varied gardens of the parish. We have so many lovely gardens in a variety of styles, ranging from the more formal in layout to traditional cottage gardens. Following the break of a few years there are a number of new and different features to see and the newer gardens have become much more established and mature. We already have a large number of plants to sell and the Tuesday workshops have been a hive of repotting activity. However, we would welcome any surplus plants you may have of any kind, whether vegetables, annuals, alpines or perennials. We will be very happy to pot these up for you. Please let Mary have these as soon as possible. We have decided to freeze the cost of entry to £3.50 - great value. If you are able to offer your help in running stalls or to help with refreshments, or to donate items for any of the stalls eg bric a brac, books, cakes, tombola and/or draw prizes, please contact Michael or Mary.

Following the event on Sunday evening at 6.30 pm we are to hold Songs of Praise in one of the gardens. Please join us and if you have a favourite hymn you would like to have included please let me know. We hope for good weather.

Auction of Promises

Sun 6th July 7.30 pm

Following the wedding of their daughter Shân. Alan and Ysy Wozencroft have generously offered the use of the marquee for the Promises Auction on Sunday 6th July. The evening will begin with a Buffet Supper at 7.30 pm followed by the auction of promises and donated items. The auctioneer for the event is the highly entertaining Geoff Croft of Brightwells Auctioneers. Thank you to those people who have already offered promises etc and those of you who are still thinking, please we need many more, let us know as soon as you can as we need to complete the catalogue. This promises to be a great evening (if you'll forgive the pun). Tickets for the evening to include supper are £10.00, available from Ysy or Michael.

Preaching Cross Service

This will be held on Sunday 22nd June at 10 am, followed by lunch in the churchyard (weather permitting). Offers of food to Kath please.

From the Parish Register: Holy Baptism

Isabel Lara Wickens

It was a delight to welcome Craig and Lorna Wickens and their family and friends to St Mary's on 27th April for the Baptism of Isabel Lara. The many children present were very well behaved and the congregation was highly entertained during the pouring of the water into the font when Archie (Isabel's older brother) got rather wetter than anticipated. Well, Claire had suggested a large splash!! Everyone stayed for sherry or coffee and Christening Cake which had been beautifully made and decorated by Kath. A wonderful family occasion to welcome Isabel into the Lord's family.

49 Club

Recent winners were:

  1. April 12th - Penny Smith
  2. April 19th - Edie Rhoden
  3. April 26th - Oli McPherson
  4. May 3rd - Pauline and John Atkinson
  5. May 10th - Aileen Hood

You may have noticed that Edie's family has had an exceptional winning streak lately!

Thought for the Month

Waiting can be difficult - but it's worth it. Wait for God, and he will send you where he chooses. Where do you think that might be? — John Witcombe
