Parish Magazine for February 2009
We are all very saddened to hear of the death of the former editor of this magazine. Jackie would be proud of me this month as I have not written over my quota. She will be looking down on me with much pride (she frequently phoned me to ask me to précis down my contribution). Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Harold.
Our sincere thanks go to David Rhoden for once again cutting the church hedge to his usual high standard. It all looks so neat and tidy.
Our Christmas party this year was held in the village hall at Hope Bagot where around fifty of our friends and neighbours gathered to see in the festivities by playing games and being entertained with readings, carols, and a sing-a-long to traditional folk and old time music hall songs interspersed with a few jokes both old and new. A hot supper of bangers, mash and beans, followed by puddings then cheese and biscuits was consumed with relish. The hall was beautifully decorated with festive swags and hangings making the whole atmosphere both warm and inviting. My grateful thanks to all those of you who worked so hard to make the evening the success that it evidently was. A special thank you to Marina Clent for coming and playing the organ to accompany our singing. — Tony Easteal
Christmas Eve Service
The colourfully decorated Christmas tree, along with the exquisite flower arrangements and candles set a warm and welcoming atmosphere for our ?Midnight Mass? at 9pm on Christmas Eve. The service was conducted by Revd Dr Sue Foster. At the beginning of the service Sue blessed the Crib and one of our visitors volunteered to light the final candle on the Advent Wreath. Sue led a meaningful service, the singing of the carols was hearty despite us being a slightly reduced congregation. Special thanks to Chris Wall for donating the Christmas tree, to Aileen Hood for making the Advent Wreath, and finally to all those who decorated the church and the Christmas tree - it all looked stunning. Thank you.
