Parish Magazine for August 2009
Recently we have enjoyed two very special services at Hereford Cathedral. On Sunday 28th June we celebrated 15 years of Local Ministry in the Diocese and a 'farewell' to Bishop Michael Hooper. The following Sunday the Cathedral was packed to overflowing for the Service of Ordination. We send our very best wishes and congratulations to both Hilary Morgan and Chris Moore who were ordained Deacon. We hope they will enjoy being part of the Team and working amongst us all. If you need an 'up-lift' go to one of the Cathedral services and join in the singing ? a wonderful tonic!
We are delighted to report that Tony is making steady progress towards recovery. He sends his thanks and best wishes to all who have shown concern and sent him messages of kindness.
The sun shone on Whitton for the annual service around the Medieval Preaching Cross. The Rev Dr Sue Foster led a beautiful service and the organ was played by David Bland. The service was attended by 30 people and we were delighted to welcome several visitors, including friends from the Ludlow area and returning friends who had formerly lived in the neighbouring parish. The service was followed by a delicious summer lunch much enjoyed by everyone. The meal was accompanied by a very generous gift of wine from the Rev Colin Hutt. It was a lovely occasion and was wonderfully well planned. Many thanks to all who helped in erecting the gazebos, preparing the superb lunch, making the churchyard look so lovely, and not least those who cleaned away and took the washing up home. The banns of marriage between Richard Wozencroft and Georgina James were completed and the Rev Sue Foster presented Richard with a certificate wishing him and Georgina a long and happy life together.
Work at the Tuesday Workshop continues apace. We have been enjoying a varied programme of events and projects, including manicure, make-up and make-over, plant propagation, floral decoration (later using the flowers in the church), furniture restoration, the list goes on. In between these sessions we have continued to plan and work towards the banner for the church. There have been many ideas and formats for this but Jean Wall had the most brilliant idea of using the weather vane from the church as a centrepiece with all of the seasons of the year and the church calendar, radiating from this. What a stunning idea, we are all very excited and stimulated as work begins in this new direction. The Tuesday sessions are much enjoyed by the ladies and often by the men as well. They are lovely sessions full of laughter and good humour.
Village Hall AGM
I think I can safely say that the Annual Meeting of Hope Bagot and Whitton Village Hall held on Monday 29th June was one of the best attended in many years. The Treasurer David Hatchell produced detailed accounts showing the cost of the kitchen refurbishment and the balance sheet for the year ending 31st March 2009. The cost of the kitchen works was met by grants from SCC Grassroots fund, Hope Bagot Parish Meeting and the Village Hall Fund. We now have an up-to-date state of the art kitchen!! Many thanks to all those who have worked so hard to bring this project to fruition. Mr Charles Kenchington agreed to arrange a Variety Show in the Village Hall this autumn. On the proposition of Charles Kenchington, seconded by Anthony Russell and carried unanimously the following were appointed Trustees ? Jan Kenchington, Julian Rogers-Coltman and Alan Wozencroft. The following were elected Officers and Committee:- Chairman Michael Holmes, Secretary Penny Bowkett, Treasurer David Hatchell, Entertainments Officer Charles Kenchington. Members:- Linda Drew, Ysy Wozencroft and Lyn Russell. Following the election it was agreed to invite residents of Whitton and Hope Bagot, one from each parish to join the committee.
St Mary's Burford hosted the Ludlow Deanery Synod Evensong on Thursday 2nd July. The service was superbly led by Kath Bills and the Preacher was The Ven Malcolm Colmer, Archdeacon of Hereford. It was a most inspiring and uplifting service and well supported by parishes within our Team. After the service excellent refreshments were provided by the parishioners of Burford, to whom we give our sincere thanks.

Prayer for the Month
Remember us, faithful God, when our world is so full of misery and disaster and you seem so far away; hope is but a distant dream. Remember us, faithful God, and remind us that you never give up on us; do not let us give up on you. — AmenArchive of Previous Parish Magazines
