Welcome

We extend a warm welcome to Philip and Sarah Watkins and their daughter Juliet who have recently moved into Sycamore Farm. We hope they will enjoy being part of our community.

Rotavator for Mtapwa

Wonderful News!! The rotavator has arrived!! On 22nd July we received an email from Rev William to confirm that the 'tiller' had arrived. We now look forward to receiving pictures of it in action. Once again many thanks to all those who made donations to our appeal or supported it through fund raising events. I will keep you posted.

July Evensong

What a wonderful evening!! In a recent edition of the Teme Valley Magazine there was a profile of Robert Gordon-Blacker, organist at St Mary's Tenbury, in which he said the choir would be very happy to sing at Matins and Evensong, if invited by any of the local churches. The music and atmosphere was quite lovely. The service was led by Rev Chris Moore who was ordained deacon the Sunday before; and was supported in the congregation by Rev Hilary Morgan who was also recently ordained. Rev Claire Lording preached a very thoughtful and meaningful sermon. Before the final hymn an anthem was beautifully sung by the choir to the great appreciation of all present. The choir, who normally sing in the much larger church of St Mary's Tenbury, would very mujch welcome another opportunity - possibly in the winter months - to return to our rather smaller building and to sing again for us. After the service wine, soft drinks and refreshments were enjoyed by everyone. Special thanks to Robert and the choir and to all those who provided and served the refreshments - a great night.

Betty and Bill's Posh 'Do'

Having postponed the previous week's arrangements due to inclement weather, we were all very nervous about the weather for the following weekend for which we had re-organised it. Mother Nature was very kind to us and the event was held on Saturday 18th July in the beautiful setting of The White House, Hope Bagot. We took the added precaution of putting up gazeboes which were only needed at the very end of the afternoon, while people were chatting. Canapés were served with the first glass of 'bubbly' followed by a superb salad lunch with salmon, beef, and quails eggs, etc, followed by strawberries and cream and sweets. A very good time was had by all. Grateful thanks to Betty and Bill and helpers. Betty and Bill wish to thank all those who wupported the luncheon and the grand sum of approx £400 was raised for church funds.

PCC Meeting

The PCC meeting held in church on Monday July 27th was well attended and was chaired by Rev Claire Lording. The main items of business were:

  1. The first part of the evening was spent completing a questionnaire from the Deanery re 2015 onwards.
  2. The Gift Aid report was presented by Tony Easteal in the absence of Topsy. 18 people are now signed up for gift aid and approx four yellow envelopes are used per service.
  3. A team of local volunteers agreed to carry out the annual maintenance check in accordance with the agreement with English Heritage. Regarding the Nave Roof, it was agreed to wait for the next quinquennial report which is due February 2010.
  4. The Ludlow Embroidery Group is going to be contacted to see if they would be willing to carry out the refurbishment of our red altar frontal which is in urgent need of repair.
  5. The treasurer was authorised to purchase a new mower for the churchyard at a cost of just under £800. Stewart McGuinness confirmed that the 49 Club was registered under the gaming act.
  6. Mrs Kath Bills updated members on the Local Ministry Team happenings and agreed that it would be an agenda item for all future meetings.

From the Parish Register: Holy Baptism
Cieran John Salisbury

A christening is always a joyous occasion and the Baptism of Cieran was no exception. The Rev Claire Lording, Team Rector, led the service in a full church with her usual enthusiasm and this was the perfect occasion for Rev Claire to welcome our much loved organist Don Hearn back - to a round of very appreciative applause. The address was given by Rev Hilary Morgan. It was wonderful to see the font in use for the first time in ten years. To mark the occasion Churchwarden Tony Easteal presented Cieran and his parents with a baptism candle and presented certificates of baptism to the godparents. Following the service, christening cake, tea, coffee and biscuits were served.

Prayer for the Month

Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified: hear our prayer which we offer for all your faithful people, that in their vocation and ministry they may serve you in holiness and truth to the glory of your name. — Amen
