Tony and I would like to wish you all a SAFE AND PEACEFUL NEW YEAR

Jack Edwards

We extend our congratulations to Jack Edwards who was named Shropshire Star Young Cricketer of the Year for Shropshire. The presentation was held at the White House Hotel, Telford on Friday 19th November. Jack is now back in training six days a week. Well done Jack, keep up the good work.

Joseph Wall

I was privileged to sponsor Joseph at his Confirmation held at St Laurence's Church, Ludlow, on Sunday 21st November. Bishop Anthony presided and it was a most memorable occasion - a very uplifting service.

Sight Savers

Thank you to all who gave so generously to this worthy cause at our Harvest Thanksgiving Service, £175 was collected and has been forwarded to this charity in their fight against avoidable blindness.

Due to the recent cold weather we have been unable to complete the cutting of the grass. We thank Chris Wall for his help during November.

Annual Service of Remembrance

An excellent attendance was recorded for our Annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving on Sunday 14th November. The service was ably led by Kath Bills who gave a very inspiring address. The wreath was presented by Sophie Cavenagh and laid by Mrs Edie Rhoden. The Roll of Honour from the parishes of Greete and Whitton was read by churchwarden Tony Easteal and Michael Jenkins read the Act of Homage. Many, many thanks to Mrs Pat Dunn, Mrs Aileen Hood and Mrs Edie Rhoden for the stunning flower and poppy displays. Whitton Villagers contributed £85 to the Poppy Appeal which included £25 from the church for the wreath.

November Communion

At 7am on Sunday 28th November 2010 the temperature in the church was -11°C therefore we were pleased to be invited by Rose and Clive Edwards to hold our morning service in the warmth of their lounge. Twenty seven of us congregated at Burnt House, and the service was taken by the Rev Judith Dunkling and Rev Chris Moore. In her welcome Judith told us that at the church where she had officiated earlier that morning the temperature had been -9°C and she thanked Rose and Clive for allowing us all to invade their home. Judith also commented that if we found the sermon boring, we had a wonderful view to admire and entertainment from the blue tits going in and out of the old pump. As this was Judith's last service at Whitton before she leaves for pastures new we were delighted that the service was able to take place in such a lovely atmosphere. Refreshments were kindly provided by the parishioners and everyone was able to stay after the service to chat with Judith and wish her well for the future. Thank you Don as always for the musical accompaniment. Special thanks to Rose and Clive for their hospitality.

Christmas Concert

After 10 years of the Christmas Concert, this year proved unlucky due to the adverse weather conditions and unfortunately the 11th concert had to be cancelled at the 11th hour!! I know that many of you were disappointed including the Band as they told me that it is one of the highlights of their Christmas. We would have once again had a full house but the majority of you would not have been able to get to our church safely. We would like to offer a thank you to all for your support and a big thank you to Aileen Hood for all her hard work in arranging the programme. Hopefully, Aileen will let us use it for 2011, the date being Friday December 2nd.

December Evensong

After our December Evensong, led by Rev Chris Moore, a service which everyone appreciated and enjoyed, the congregation were invited to Burnt House to view the magnificent array of their Christmas lights both inside and out. Everyone thought the display was stunning. Light refreshments were enjoyed including for a change a birthday cake for Rose's own birthday which she hadn't had to make herself! Once again many thanks for Rose and Clive's warm hospitality on a cold evening.

Just a reminder that the prize goes to the person whose number matches the Bonus Ball on the National Lottery every Saturday. As a result of your membership, we will have paid out £1,300 in prizes and made a donation to the church of £1,248 in 2010.
