Festival of Churches

This year, for the first time, the annual/national Ride and Stride event was enlarged to include a ‘Festival of Churches’ in the three counties of Hereford, Worcester and Shropshire. A unique and collaborative event, it was said, to celebrate and to promote the important role in the life and the heart of our church communities.

At St Mary's we put on hot lunches and puddings to be eaten in or taken away; a plant stall laden with flowering plants and shrubs at very reasonable prices; and an audio visual display of the restoration work carried out on the church building over the past seven years.

On Saturday we had a total of 14 visitors, many of whom stayed to savour the hot lunches after showing great interest in the restoration and especially the Burne Jones/William Morris East window. Sunday was not so successful in that we only attracted three visitors during the whole day.

The consensus of opinion is that it was a vast amount of work, including erecting a marquee, for very little reward. But on the up side, those of us manning the event read a lot of the weekend newspapers and completed the Telegraph crossword both days, did an inordinate amount of chatting and were extremely well nourished into the bargain thanks to Kath's excellent cooking skills. Would we do it again? - probably not was the majority reply. Mind you, if the weather had been better things might have been different. — Tony Easteal

Thank You

To all the lovely people who enquired, wrote, telephoned, called in, sent cards and presents to me over the last two months. I am now fully recovered (fngers crossed) and repeat my thanks for all your kind thoughts and prayers. — Topsy Easteal
