Parish Magazine for November 2013
Festival of Churches
This year, for the first time, the annual/national Ride and Stride event was enlarged to include a ‘Festival of Churches’ in the three counties of Hereford, Worcester and Shropshire. A unique and collaborative event, it was said, to celebrate and to promote the important role in the life and the heart of our church communities.
At St Mary's we put on hot lunches and puddings to be eaten in or taken away; a plant stall laden with flowering plants and shrubs at very reasonable prices; and an audio visual display of the restoration work carried out on the church building over the past seven years.
On Saturday we had a total of 14 visitors, many of whom stayed to savour the hot lunches after showing great interest in the restoration and especially the Burne Jones/William Morris East window. Sunday was not so successful in that we only attracted three visitors during the whole day.
The consensus of opinion is that it was a vast amount of work, including erecting a marquee, for very little reward. But on the up side, those of us manning the event read a lot of the weekend newspapers and completed the Telegraph crossword both days, did an inordinate amount of chatting and were extremely well nourished into the bargain thanks to Kath's excellent cooking skills. Would we do it again? - probably not was the majority reply. Mind you, if the weather had been better things might have been different. — Tony Easteal
To all the lovely people who enquired, wrote, telephoned, called in, sent cards and presents to me over the last two months. I am now fully recovered (fngers crossed) and repeat my thanks for all your kind thoughts and prayers. — Topsy Easteal
The Annual Service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday 10th November at 6.30pm. As is our custom the collection will be for church funds, with a retiring collection for anyone who wishes to make a donation to the Poppy Appeal. The Act of Remembrance will take place in the church.
Tickets at £6 each are now available for our Annual Concert which this year will feature the Cleobury Mortimer Concert Brass Band to be held in church on Friday 6th December at 7.30pm. The charge covers draw, punch and mince pies. We look forward once again to a full church. Tickets available from Michael Holmes (890332).
Please note that the next PCC meeting will be held on Wednesday 23rd October at 7.30pm at The Cottage, Whitton.
We still have a supply of Christmas Cards and would be most grateful if any of you would please be willing to purchase a quantity of these cards to enable us to reduce our stock. Please contact Michael.
We are most indebted to David Rhoden once again for kindly cutting the road side hedge with his usual mastery; it looks wonderful. Thank you David!

Prayer for the Month of Remembrance
O God of many nations, Lover of all nations. We pray for peace - in our hearts, in our homes, in our nations, in our world. The peace of your will. The peace of your need.Archive of Previous Parish Magazines
