Parish Magazine for January 2014
Tony and I would like to wish you all a VERY HAPPY AND PEACEFUL NEW YEAR.
Anne and Michael
We all send our very Best Wishes to Anne and Michael Jenkins and wish them every happiness in their new home. We extend a very sincere THANK YOU to them for their contribution to the life of St Mary's over many years. During their recent stay in the village they have energetically worked hard in the churchyard and church. We are delighted that they both hope to continue to support us in the future, which will be much appreciated.
Thank you to the many people who have given of their talents and time to cut the overgrown shrubs back, clean out the gutters, rake leaves and generally tidy up the churchyard ready for the winter. It looks so much lighter!! as you walk up the path. Hopefully the spring flowers will benefit and we look forward to a wonderful array!
Our annual Christmas Concert of readings and carols was accompanied this year by Cleobury Mortimer Concert Brass under the direction of David Taylor. The church was almost full. The music, the readings and the singing of the carols was magical, a warm and wonderful start to the season of Advent as we prepare to celebrate Christ's birth at Bethlehem. Before the concert commenced the first candle on the Advent Wreath was lit by Florence, daughter of Leah and Liam, and Kath Bills said an Advent prayer.
In the first half of the programme Jack Edwards introduced Joseph and Maisie Wall, Sophie and Amanda Cavenagh and Alice Boland who gave a wonderful rendition of Somewhere over the rainbow wholly presented in sign language which was beautifully co-ordinated by the children under the direction of Julie Wall. Individual performances were by Alice Boland on keyboard and Sophie Cavenagh on the cello. During the interval hot punch, sausage rolls and mince pies were served. There were so many prizes in our lucky ticket draw that you count yourself unlucky not to go home with something. Many thanks to all who supported the event, all who helped in decorating the tree and church, preparing the food and punch, donating the raffle prizes and especially to Anne Jenkins who did the mountain of washing up. THANK YOU ALL.
