Parish Magazine for April 2014
We send our best wishes and congratulations to Shelley and Matthew Rowley on the safe arrival of their first child, Martha Florence born on 25th January 2014 weighing in at 7lbs 2oz, third grand-daughter of Barbara Tromans of Applecroft.
After a break of one year the traditional Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race was revived. On a beautiful sunny morning a good crowd gathered outside Whitton Paddocks for the race up to the Church steps and back. A tense race ended with a dead heat between Jack Edwards and Michael Holmes and a very good performance from the ladies! Afterwards we adjourned to Carpenter's House by kind invitation of Mary and Barry Winn who not only supplied the venue but also a wealth of pancakes, with something a little stronger to wash them down!! Mary presented the prizes and a very big thank you to everyone who supplied refreshments and prizes.
This year it will be a joint service with our neighbours from Greete and will be held at St Mary's Whitton on Sunday 30th March at 10am (5th Sunday). Celebrate Mothering Sunday with other families and enjoy simnel cake and blessing and presentation of posies after the service. Offers of help with making the posies would be appreciated. We look forward to a good attendance.

Our 10am Holy Communion will include the baptism of Georgia and Henry Whitby (grandchildren of Alan and Ysy Wozencroft).
The pre-AGM held at Croft Cottage, Snitton Lane, was well attended and chaired by Revd Claire Lording. Among items discussed were: Mr McGuinness presented the accounts for 2013 and the audited accounts were subsequently agreed at a special PCC meeting held in church after Evensong on March 9th. They showed a healthy balance despite the cost of the roof repairs. It was agreed to send £40 as our contribution to last year's Festival of Churches event. Tony Easteal reported that he had reapplied for the faculty for the War Memorial restoration. Thanks were expressed to Ann Kemp for re-vamping our church brochure.
Finally a reminder that the Annual PCC Meeting will be held in the church on Monday 31st March at 7.30pm.

Prayer for Easter Day
Father God, thank you for new life, for spring flowers, baby chicks, newborn lambs, for spring sunshine and rain showers which help the plants to grow. Thank you for the dried bulbs and seeds which look so dead. They are springing into new life, soon they will be beautiful. Most of all Lord, we thank you for your Son Jesus, who suffered and died for us, on the cross. And today, we celebrate that on Easter Day He rose from the dead.
He is risen! Alleluia!Archive of Previous Parish Magazines
