July Communion Service

The Communion service held on 26th July was conducted for the first time by Rev Sylvia Turner who will be celebrating the Eucharist for us bi-monthly for the foreseeable future. She was warmly welcomed by the congregation.

August Evensong

Many thanks to Tony Easteal for leading our August Evensong and for taking a thought-provoking service.

Picnic

The Friends of Whitton picnic took place on a largely sunny afternoon on Sunday 9th August around the Wozencrofts' fishing pool - a lovely setting. A big thank you to David, Lyn and Richard for allowing us to fish and for providing the canoes. The Evans family took full advantage of the fishing, landing a 6lb carp, and two intrepid villagers ventured out onto the water in the boats and both managed to stay above water with varying degrees of success. Well done to Ann Kemp and to Dr Nick Farnell.

PCC Meeting

Our August PCC meeting was held at The Cottage by kind invitation of Chris and Ann Kemp and chaired for the first time by Rev Sian Harris.

Our Christmas services will be:

We have just joined easyfundraising.org.uk/ so the 2,700 eligible retailers such as Tesco, John Lewis, etc, can make a donation to Whitton PCC every time you shop online at no extra cost to yourselves. Please check on easyfundraising.org.uk/ to see how it works (especially by adding their donation reminder). This is a very quick way to support and maintain St Mary's so that this beautiful 12th century church with its Burne Jones window is here for us and future generations to enjoy. Any queries, ring Chris Kemp (Treasurer) on 01584-891500.

The next PCC meeting will take place on Wednesday 28th October at Smithy Bungalow.

Thought for the month

Teach us good Lord, to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the wounds; to work and not to seek for rest; to labour and not to ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do your will, through Christ our Lord — Amen  — St Ignatius Loyola, 16th century
