Annual Village Pancake Race, Pancakes and Sherry
Many thanks to Alan and Ysy Wozencroft for again hosting the Village Pancake Race and Sherry morning to be held on 9th February at Whitton Farm at 10.30am. Bring your running shoes and a frying pan and join in the fun. Pancakes will be provided for you to toss. If you are past running come and cheer everyone else. There will be pancakes and sherry afterwards. See you all there.
Village Christmas Party
A very good number gathered at The Cottage for our annual get-together. A good choice of delicious hot food was enjoyed by all and then we settled down to Mac's traditional seasonal quiz which Sally McGuinness and Viv Pimm ran. The quiz, as usual, was a real brain teaser and the scores were hardly worthy of Mastermind! Sincere thanks to Chris and Ann for cramming us all in!! and to everyone who supplied and gave the food. A super evening.
Thank you to Greete for hosting the joint Greete and Whitton Carol Service. Many thanks to Rev Stephen Thomas for crafting an excellent service, which was well attended, Rachel Davenhill for supporting us on the organ and not least to Greete for providing the delicious refreshments.
Christmas Eve Communion
A fair number of people gathered for our “midnight” service at 9pm!! at which the Rev Sian Harris officiated. Maureen Swindells kindly accompanied us on the organ.
Team Eucharist - Sunday 27th December
Despite this service being two days after Christmas Day we were pleased to see a good number of people and we were very grateful to Rev Sylvia Turner of Whitton for leading us. This time we were accompanied by Marina Clent on the organ. The service was followed by excellent refreshments made and supplied by Kath Bills and sherry supplied by the church wardens.
As with our Christmas Eve service the singing was led by an augmented choir which added richness to the occasions and their talents were commented on by a number of people.
Seasonal Thanks go to everyone who contributed to making Christmas special at St Mary's: Aileen Hood for the advent wreath, Chris Wall for donating the Christmas tree, all those who cleaned and decorated the church, the clergy, organists, choir (especially Helen Brand), all who attended the service and those who tidied up post-holiday.
We were delighted to welcome back Kevin Bryant to lead our service. He certainly gave us a thought-provoking address, which many of us are still talking about. We look forward to seeing him again in March. Thanks as ever to Jinny.
The next PCC meeting will be on Wednesday 17th February at 7.30pm at Croft Cottage.
